It’s not just for the lactose intolerant or vegans. Here are 4 reasons why you should switch from your soy, almond, or cow’s milk to oat milk today.
1. Oat milk contains more fibre than other plant-based milk
Some of the fibre in the oats is lost during processing, but oat milk products still generally end up with around 2 or 3 grams of fibre per serving, which is more than most types of milk.
Average fibre amount in different milk types
Oat milk: 2-3 g
Almond milk: 1g
Cow’s milk: 0g
2. It keeps you fuller for a longer period of time
Oat milk does tend to be higher in carbohydrates, but that’s perfectly alright because it’s providing energy through these carbs and fiber opposed to fats from cow’s milk.
Not only does it keep you full but some of the oat milk brands such as Otis, is fortified with Calcium, D2, Riboflavin and B12- so you know you’re getting your daily needs for wholesome goodness.
3. Enjoy great-tasting milk while creating a sustainable Earth
A study by BBC Climate Change found that compared to other types of milk such as soy, almond or cow’s milk, oat milk is responsible for the least environmental impact. A litre of oat milk requires 11x less land, 13x less water, 6.5x less fertiliser, and emits 3.5x less greenhouse gas emissions than one litre of dairy milk.
Oat milk brand, Otis, is proud to work closely with the NZ Oat Growers Group and around 70 diversified arable farmers.
4. It goes well with anything and everything
We’re not even exaggerating but we love how flexible these naturally sweetened oat milks are. From coffee to granolas to smoothies, it’s so easy to find something to pair the oat milk with. Or, simply enjoy it as a drink on its own.
